So what is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?!

Simply put it’s physical therapy for your private bits. Addressing pain, weakness and dysfunction for your pelvic floor muscles (including the nerves and fascia that go throughout them)

Ortho in a warm dark cave (I wish I could say I came up with this, but I didn’t and I don’t remember who I heard it from!!)

BUT it’s SO much more than this. And personally, for me and how I treat, Pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) is holistic, integrative care.

Maybe you leak when you jump or run or sneeze, maybe your mommy tummy has never gone away after having kids, maybe you can’t bear the thought of having sex because it hurts too much, maybe you feel a very uncomfortable pressure or pain in your vagina, maybe it’s hard to get around because your low back, hips or pelvic bones hurt all the time when you’re pregnant, maybe, maybe, maybe.. Maybe one of these things, or multiple, or something different and PFPT can help to address these things, but it goes beyond just physical symptoms and do x,y, & z to get better. .
I believe that care has to start with looking at you as a whole person. Taking in the whole person in front of me looking at your overall health including mental, emotional, & physical, your life experiences, and all that has shaped you - meeting you where you’re at and incorporating it all to help you achieve your goals.

There are a lot more technical definitions of PFPT out there, but I can’t give just a technical definition because this profession means so much more to me (and to my patients). So that’s a little intro on what PFPT is and I hope you’re excited to learn more❤️
